Organic Flowers?
We grow our flowers organically in the rainforest. Native ohia trees provide the canopy and hapu'u ferns are the under-story. They shed their leaves and bark to feed themselves and the flowers that grow beneath them. We boost the flowers with our own fertilizer, made by composting all of our farm's organic byproducts. They are well-fed, happy, healthy flowers, so we don't have trouble with bad bugs. We use no herbicides or pesticides to comply with the Hawai`i Organic Farm Association (HOFA) and to help the Earth. We endeavor to be kind to the Earth. Our rainforest thrives from our care. We are happy to share its bounty with you, your family and your friends.
Sustainable Farming
We are inspired by "The Contrary Farmer" by Gene Logsdon. It makes sense to care for the Earth. We've gone back to the old ways of farming and being as diversified as we can. We grow what we like to eat and the overflow goes to the local health food stores, who support small certified organic farmers. Our favorite food is taro, a Hawaiian staple. (The big green heart shaped leaf pictured here behind my nephew)
Farm Produce
We also grow purple sweet potato, jicama, lettuces, broccoli, kale, sweet peas, and poha. Our Orchards are growing oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, tangerines, starfruits, lychees, rambutans, avacados, bananas and soon to be papaya. Pictured here is a mountain apple tree. The fruit tastes like a combination of peach, pear and apple. We are grateful for all good soil, the sun, the rain and all of the rainbows.
